Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment method that involves individual sperm cells separated from the semen (washed sperm) for the purpose of removing chemical substances from the male reproductive fluid that may cause unexpected or adverse reactions in the uterus and non-motile sperm cells injected directly into the uterus with the IUI catheter.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination is a common used procedure that drastically increases chances of a couple to get pregnant. Once washed sperm is injected into a woman’s uterus, it is substantially more efficient in terms of fertilizing an egg, in contrast with unwashed sperm that may cause uterine spasms, ejecting the semen and causing discomfort, due to content of a group of eicosanoids. A fertility specialist may ask a woman to rest on the operating table for some time after an intrauterine insemination (IUI) to achieve the optimal results for the procedure and to increase the odds for a woman to become pregnant. IUI is the best choice for females under 30 years of age to conceive. The Network of Reproductive Medical Centers “Mother and Child” usually practices IUI method jointly with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation to reach the satisfying success rate.
